Jun. 15th, 2005 07:45 amHe steps through, and stands there blinking in the dim light of the motel corridor. The sounds of Milliways have cut off as though at the flip of a switch, and the silence around him is broken only by the low gravelly hum of the ice machine around the corner.
Unable to stop himself, Andrew turns and looks back through the doorway.
It's a motel room. The "boys' dorm," just off the lobby. Principal Wood asleep on one bed, Mr. Giles on the other, Xander on one of the two mattresses on the floor. No sign of the light and laughter and music he's just left behind.
"Andrew?" The voice is blurry with sleep, and familiar. He turns; Kennedy stands a few feet away from him, rubbing her eyes with one hand. "What're you doing up?"
"I, uh." He swallows. "Needed a drink of water."
"The drinking fountain's that way?" She points past him, and rolls her eyes just a little.
"Thanks." He turns away from her, glances back through the doorway again, and heads off in the direction she's pointed.
This is going to take some getting used to.
