Conference Call

"...Self-defense classes maybe, and the history and demonology if she's interested. But she's not there for training." Andrew looks around the projected conference table, meeting the eyes of each astral form in turn. "I know that's unorthodox, but I feel strongly it's the way to go here."
"If she's not here for training," says Giles, fingers tapping the tabletop soundlessly, "what is she here for?"
"Call it protective custody," says Wood, a little grimly. "She's scared of us, and the only reason she's there at all is there's somebody else who scares her worse."
"There's precedent," Jonathan says, very serious. "Dana."
"Oh, now," objects Ms. Harkness. "I hardly think ..."
"No, that's precedent." Andrew nods at Jonathan. "Nobody seriously expected we were taking Dana in to train her to fight, but we clearly had to take her in."
"To keep her out of the wrong hands," Ms. Harkness protests.
Andrew sits back and steeples his fingers, with the smile of a man laying down a winning hand. "And that's exactly what we're doing here."
The ensuing argument goes on for nearly an hour ... but about halfway through, with no clear point of transition, the subject under discussion has somehow changed from whether to how.
