It's Happy Hour, and there's a new guy behind the bar who gives his name as Jake; the Specials board reads HALF OFF FOR ANY ORDER INVOLVING A PUN.

This has led to a discussion of puns in particular and humor in general, between two regular patrons seated at the bar.

"-- but the 'hickory daiquiri' pun relies both on phoenetic similarity and awareness of an element of popular culture," Andrew explains earnestly, and takes a sip of his kahlua-spiked milkshake.

It's close to second nature by now for Gaeta to do the same thing while seated; it's even easier when he doesn't have to deal with his shoe or prosthesis.

Once he's done, he scoots over to his side of the bed.

Andrew slides in next to him, and curls close.




The words I'm sorry form in his mouth and dissolve unsaid, leaving a bad taste behind.

This isn't something he can be sorry for.

Gaeta can't, either: to the point where saying I'm sorry doesn't so much as cross his mind.

He draws one of Andrew's arms around himself and touches his remaining toes to the other man's feet, closing his eyes, settling in.

Maybe he'll forget about it by the morning, is the last drowsy, selfish thought that crosses his mind before he drifts back to sleep.

Andrew lies awake for what feels like a long time, breathing in the smell of Felix's hair, watching his back rise and fall.

His mind is still circling exhaustedly, but keeps coming back to two phrases, over and over.

I love you so much.

I don't know what to do.
