Brix hesitates a moment, then--

When you are in pain and frightened, simply the cessation of pain and fear is a reward. Is it not?

She cocks her head, watching the set of his shoulders.

"What do you think it means, that when he isn't here to remind you of his glory, that you can't remember how it feels?"
