Blackness.
Two minds, hovering in the blackness; they believe themselves to still have a shape, and so they do.

Ava doesn't actually say it, but her expression may be rather eloquent on the subject.
(Who's Tim? Didn't Andrew mention a Tim in connection with Baby?)
"Nice to meet you," Ava decides reluctantly.
"Uh-- so will you? Guide us?"
no subject
"So they do, master." The Fool beams at him, and at Ava. "Gladly would I guide you -- but to follow a Fool, one would have to be a greater fool still."
no subject
"I've followed worse."

Maybe it's the face-making.

Ava's not actually sure which of those is the dicier alternative.

She nods.
"Okay. Great."
This place is ridiculous.

The Fool dances in a half-circle around them, arms poised as though waltzing with an invisible partner.
no subject
Beat.
"Only with a partner, though."
no subject
"Do you know any good riddles?"
no subject
"Do you?"
no subject
"Agreed," the Fool sings out. "Who tells the first riddle?"
no subject
"Fine. You first. I'll try to think of something."
no subject
Louder: "I'll tell the first riddle."
Riddles in the dark, he thinks, and with that he's got his first one.
"This thing all things devours; / birds, beasts, trees, flowers. / Gnaws iron, bites steel, / Grinds hard stones to meal; / Slays king, ruins town, / And beats high mountain down."

Too bad it's the home team's riddle.
(On second thought: they're the visitors.)

Spreading his hands: "Time, good master, there's your answer. Have I struck the mark?"
no subject
Ava refrains from sighing-- and from glowering-- with some effort.
no subject
He steeples his fingers in front of his chest. "Now let's hear your first riddle, Tom."
no subject
"What goes through the door without bending, goes through the water without a wetting, lies flat on the floor and feels no shame?"
His glance, light and mocking, goes from Andrew to Ava and back.
no subject
But she'd rrrreally like to get this guy.
A glance to Andrew. "Any idea?"
no subject
"The answer is something else that lies all around us: shadows."
no subject
Ava glances to the Fool-- half to see if this is the right answer, and half in suspicion.
